With bonus rounds, big prizes, daring base game extras and a lifetime’s worth of fearless marauding, Agent Valkyrie is a game for the ambitious, but not the fainthearted.
Gameplay Overview & Symbols
Don’t be fooled by the relatively basic graphics, as they belay the genuine quality of the game under the surface. But at the same time, we have to say we weren’t thrilled by the clunky animations or the oldie-style design. The game looks, sounds, and feels like it was created 5-10 years ago – compared to what we’re used to playing nowadays, it can’t be considered “cutting-edge” by any means.
There’s a relatively tense soundtrack, which adds an element of drama to the game.
So there are 3 in-game features worth considering. You’ll see that above reels 2, 3, and 4, are little-coloured boxes. Whenever a gold coin lands on reel 2, 3, or 4, it is transferred up to the relevant box above the reels. Once you collect 3 coins in a single box, it’s showtime!
- Reel 2 – Wilds reels. You get a free respin where 1 or 2 reels are completely wild.
- Reel 3 – Flying wilds. A wartime plane roams the reels, dropping a series of wilds en route.
- Reel 4 – Capture criminals. Any crooks on the board are transformed into wilds, potentially turning a bad spin into a beautiful one.
During testing we managed to trigger two of these bonuses, and in each case the result was superbly underwhelming. During capture criminals, for example, we won $1 from a $2.50 bet – not really worth the time of day.
We expect that these rounds are usually more lucrative, but it’s definitely not a guarantee!
The game also boasts its “Free Spin Mission”, which is activated by landing 3+ bonus symbols:
- 3 scatters – 7 spins, no multiplier
- 4 scatters – 11 spins, 3x multiplier
- 5 scatters – 15 spins, 10x multiplier
Naturally players can also benefit from the wild reels, flying wilds, and capture criminals features from the base game. In fact, you can your preferred bonus for each spin!
For example, if you had 15 spins, you could allocate 5 of each, or any other combination you like! Whenever you land a new scatter symbol, an extra spin is allocated. The bonus round doesn’t look or feel all that special, but it can deliver pretty generous booty if you’re lucky.
The premise of Agent Valkyrie is so good that we’re a bit sad to see what has actually been produced. Imagine if Netent or Yggdrasil took on a project of swashbuckling sky-faring pirates – it would be jaw-dropping.
Alas, that’s just not something 2by2 can produce. In the end it’s a fairly enjoyable game, but is also very volatile – prepare to go a long time without payouts of any kind.
