The soundtrack is slow, yet can be playful and jumpy. When the game loads, you’re immediately sucked into the childish and bizarre world of Sugarpop 2, and the soundtrack does a great job of reeling you in.
This 7×7 slot is a successor to the first instalment of the Sugarpop series, and both games are made by Betsoft. In fact, Betsoft was inspired to create Sugarpop by Candy Crush, the world-famous game that took us all by storm a few years ago.
With Sugarpop 2: Double Dipped, it’s all about sweet candy and tasty treats. It’s like Charlie’s Chocolate Factory 2.0!
Gameplay and Layout
The background of the game is literally a candy heaven, a bright havana of oranges and pinks. You can see colourful clouds of cotton candy, and beside the reels you have an incredibly futuristic-looking candy generating machine! It seems that essentially when you spin, you drop the candy down for the kids, and create new samples with the machine.
Winning combinations are signalled by cartoonish text and animations, and when the symbols fall it sounds like it’s raining coins! With an RTP of 96%, players can expect a whole lot of regular payouts. The game’s symbols are all varieties of candy, plus wild, free spin, and level up symbols.
Rather than using traditional paylines, Sugarpop 2: Double Dipped makes use of Cluster Pays technology, with a winning combination being any 4 identical symbols which form a cluster. Winning symbols then explode, leaving space for new symbols to fall in, creating the opportunity to get a win streak!
You can gamble with your winnings by pressing the “Double Up“ button, which means you have a 50:50 chance to double your money. It’s a risk, of course, but is the reward worth it?
If you have more than 5 symbols in a cluster, you trigger a candy bomb which also destroys surrounding symbols. The more symbols in the cluster, the more powerful the bomb.
When you have 5 or more symbols in a winning cluster, they are turned into wild symbols and are left behind to substitute into new symbols.
For every four levels you climb, an additional special symbol will come into play, increasing your odds of a good payout!
There’s nothing malicious about this game: it’s good, honest, forgettable fun. It feels like playing inside a child’s wildest imagination, and we loved it. A big thumbs up from us!
