Netent has been spending a lot of 2018 creating fantastic, wildly powerful games which bedazzle and amaze players with its complexity. With Lost Relics comes a slight change of pace. It’s still an attractive and high-tech design, but it is equally more simple, and focuses on top-tier gaming mechanics over cinematic visuals.
With exciting base-game extras complementing a dynamic and high-value bonus round, there’s also plenty of bang for your hard-earned bucks! Let’s play Lost Relics!
In the style of a modern Indiana Jones story (though thankfully not in the cringeworthy style of the actual new-age Jones franchise…) the game is full of candle-cast shadows, ancient relics, maps, rocks, and plenty of rickety noises!
Gameplay Overview & Symbols
The base game is pretty enjoyable, though mostly for the build quality over any particular innovation. Using Netent’s pioneering Cluster Pays engine, the slot features a 5×5 grid where payouts are made when 6 or more symbols clump together (aka are touching either vertically or horizontally) at a time.
We’re happy to announce that the wins don’t stop just because you hit a winning spin! There are 3 in-game extras you can experience which serve to enhance regular wins:
- Coin win – One of the winning symbols gives you an added cash prize, worth up to 30x your original stake!
- Extra wild – 3 additional wilds are placed on the reels to create a larger cluster.
- Extra scatter – One of the winning symbols is transformed into a scatter. If you’re lucky, this will tip you over to 3 and activate the bonus round!
Not only that, but these extras can occur up to 5 times after a single spin. So, you could get 150x your stake with the coin win, or 15 wilds thanks to the extra wild feature!
In terms of the symbols themselves, they are very attractive but nothing special. The artists have made them look old, well-preserved, and valuable (like the relics you dream of collecting!) but otherwise the game is graphically average for Netent – brilliant by most developers, but middle-of-the-road given their exceptional ability.
So you’ve landed 3 scatters (maybe as a result of the extra scatter bonus?) and it’s bonus round time! In addition to your 10 free spins, it’s also possible to win big cash prizes and extra wilds. Unlike the randomly-triggered events in the base game, this time there are chests hidden behind the reels which contain prizes: coin wins, extra spins, and sticky wilds – the wilds last for the duration of the round, too!
It’s incredible that, by Netent’s standards, this is only “a pretty good game” – by any other yardstick it would be incredible! The visuals are great, and as a medium-variance game there are quite regular wins.
Lost Relics is fundamentally an enjoyable experience and it has the (admittedly unlikely) potential to pay out 300x your stake on every base spin. If you’re in the market for a new game, then this should be it.
