If you swapped out the symbols with different faces, the slot could realistically be designed for any movie in history. However, with the choice for free spin rounds and big wager amounts, there is definitely a lot to like. Let’s dive right in.
When the latest Terminator movie was released a few years ago, in 2015, it was a general success. Given the immense weight of pressure from the early franchise, this was a good result! This slot is based entirely on that movie, with plenty of screen time for Arnie!
Gameplay Overview & Symbols
The background to the game is appropriately dark, grimy, mysterious, and foreboding – everything you’d expect from a Terminator game! All the big names from the movie (Sarah, Kyle, T-1000, and a certain Mr Schwarzenegger) all make their appearance, and for fans of the movie this is by far the biggest highlight!
The reels themselves are fairly basic:
- 3×5 layout
- Paintings of the characters
- Random symbols
- Old-fashioned graphic quality
But with this kind of Playtech creation, it’s not usually innovation and mind-blowing cinematic graphics that you’re paying for: it’s high-paying features, and the game certainly has those!
For a start, players can wager a mind-boggling $1,250 per spin. With 5 Arnies on a payline returning 48x stake, there’s several colleges worth of funds up for grabs! Needless to say, when you play the free spin rounds, you can take home a lot more than just 50x – all you need is enough luck to trigger the round in the first place!
Within the base game, there’s a superb randomly-triggered feature called Terminator Car Chase Bonus. Sarah and Kyle are driving desperately through the streets, attempting to outwit and out-manoeuvre the T-1000. It’s a pick-your-reward round and by choosing cards, players are rewarded with multipliers and extra spins.
The round only ends when all of the T-1000 symbols on the screen have been selected, which means you are guaranteed a win!
Now we get to the business end of the game. As good as the Car Chase was, the free spins rounds are even better. Right at the start, you get to choose between two options:
- 1984 feature – Don’t worry, it’s nothing Orwellian. The round takes you back to the launch of the original Terminator. Barrels sit above the reels and are shot down by any T-1000’s which appear below them – this transforms the reel into a Gold Multiplier wild, which stays in place until it is part of a winning combination. Terminator wilds are also fully stacked to increase your win percentage!
- 2017 feature – A holographic screen overlays the reels, and again the reels can be shot at! The result this time is the appearance of a stacked Genisys wild! You can only get one per spin, but boy are they lucrative when they do appear. This round is a bit more volatile, but it might be worth the risk!
To be honest, Terminator Genisys is everything we expected it to be. The graphics are pretty basic, and artwork is on the shoddy side, but the cold-hard-cash win potential is very high – definitely enough to get any player’s interest! If you’re in the business of making money, not playing blu-ray style slots, then you should give this game a try!
