Thunderkick has been one of the more cautious slot developers so far in 2018, releasing fewer games than many of its competitors. That said, The Falcon Huntress may have been worth waiting for!
The Falcon Huntress is a very low volatility game, with wins few and far between. Of course, like most games of this design, it means that there are big wins hiding away – you just need to play long enough to earn them!
There are a few special features built into the base game (including expanding symbols) as well as the free spins bonus round which is activated by landing a few scatters. While the slot isn’t groundbreaking, its graphics and sound effects are very well-executed.
The game is set in Asia, and follows the story of the famous Falcon Hunters, women of exceptional prowess and skill. It’s a dark, tense game, and fills the player with suspense between wins!
The Falcon Huntress is a 5-reel, 15-symbol game with 9 fixed paylines. The SFX for every spin are incredibly satisfying: there’s a soft thud when you hit “click”, a deep rumble as the reels spin, as well as drums and wind instruments playing in the background.
Audiovisually, The Falcon Huntress is quite stunning.
Unfortunately, the base game can be quite frustrating. Lengthy winless runs are common, and more often than not you’ll receive half your stake back at best. What you’re really waiting for are the Expanding Symbols.
On any winning combination, the selected symbols can expand to fill entire reels, leading to significantly larger payouts! This can be 3, 4 or even 5 symbols at once, leading to entire screens of matching symbols. It’s worth noting that the Wild symbol can’t be expanded – a real shame!
By landing 3 scatters (the Falcon) on a single spin, players unlock 10 free spins! Even better, players receive another injection of 10 spins for landing this combo during the bonus round.
You’ll be pleased to hear that the expanding reels are still available during the bonus round. If you get lucky, this round could be worth 20 spins and bucketloads of cash!
While we’ve said that The Falcon Huntress is not a groundbreaking slot, it would be wrong to suggest it’s a particularly bad one. The visual design is superb, and the expanding reels tend to pay handsomely. However, the long waits between wins seriously detracts from the game’s appeal.
It’s a nice game, but the wins are too infrequent for us to recommend it fully.
